Gilmore Girls

This episode starts with Luke punching Christopher in the face and it only gets better from there. Don't get me wrong, I love me some Christopher and wasn't dying to see him get punched, but the whole scene was just awesome. Luke gets of the elevator, knocks on the door, Christopher answers, Luke punches him and gets right back on the elevator.
How could it get better? Kirk has opened up his own outdoor cafe, called Kirk's, right across from the recently decimated Luke's. If you watched last week, you may remember that Kirk is the one who crashed the car into Luke's. Kirk's new business venture leads to an argument between Kirk, now in backwards hat and flannel, and Luke which includes Kirk asking Luke about Chuck E. Cheese, "Luke, do you really think a gigantic mouse opened a national restaurant franchise by himself?"
Lorelai is bummed about breaking up with Luke but pretending not to be bummed about Luke. Did she learn nothing from the events of last season? Rory is upset that Logan doesn't want her to visit until December but she's not going to tell him. Good to see you've learned something from Mom, kid.
Lane's back! T.J. is back! Lane and Zach had a horrible honeymoon during which they had really bad sex only one time. They tried to recreate the sex scene from From Here to Eternity but were interrupted by sand, sea crabs, and a perverted snorkeler. And now they've both got parasites. TJ wants to fix the hole in Luke's by putting in a gigantic stained glass window of a "happy penguin" or "peaceful looking giraffe". Kirk, Lane, and T.J. end up having some of the best scenes in this episode. The supporting characters on this show rock!
When they run into each other in town, Lorelai takes a break from her usual pattern of repressing her feelings and actually admits to Luke that she's upset. Luke's insists to Lorelai several times that he's "fine" about their breakup. Good lord, what is it with people on this show? It's healthy to express your feelings, people! Let it out!
To cheer Rory up about the trip to Asia with Logan that never happened, Lorelai recreates Asia in their living room. Lorelai's Asia is complete with Hello Kitty products, Sandra Oh poster, desert sushi and the scent of Miss Patti's opium perfume. Things go just swimingly until Christopher calls and leaves a message about his and Lorelai's one night stand. Rory hears the whole thing and has a 'But, wait, how does this affect me?!' fit and storms off to Lane's house.
Sookie is apparently starting to pass her freakish fertility onto other supporting characters because Lane is pregnant. And she's freaking out. Rory gives her a mothers aren't perfect speech while, we'll assume, realizing she was just a little bit bitchy to her Mom. Rory, assures Lane she'll be okay by listing a slew of bad celebrity parents. My favorite quote of the season so far? Rory's "My sock drawer could be a better mother than Courtney Love."
At diner with Luke, Liz and T.J. use a series of crazy science fiction metaphors to explain to Luke how he and Lorelai were never in sync and poor Luke finally starts to look upset about the breakup. He and Lorelai run into each other in the supermarket and have this whole awkward 'I was a jerk', 'No, I was a jerk.' conversation. See just when I was starting to like Lorelai/Chrisopher, they give us this whole angsty Luke/Lorelai moment and I wind up torn. They are toying with our emotions. I don't know about you, but I kind of like it.
The episode ends with Rory coming home to comfort a crying Lorelai. Thank goodness they aren't going to drag this fight out. We don't need a repeat of last season's hostilities.
We're two episodes into the new season. What do you all think? I actually liked this episode even better than last week's season opener. The dialogue and plots were reminiscent of some of my favorite early Gilmore. I didn't love last season and, so far, I think this season might just be heading back to the good ol' Gilmore Girls we know and love. I'm a little wary of the Lane pregnancy storyline but we shall see. Let me know what your thoughts are!
